Improve application performance by upping Workstation Java Memory

To help with screen locking up and slowing down you can try increasing the Java Memory allocated.  This is the bar you see at the bottom right hand side of your screen [###M of ###M].  If this is mostly fully utilized increasing the allocated Memeory should help allot.

Steps:

  • Click Start> Run

  • Type "Java"

  • Under Control Panel, Select Java, it might say Java (32-bit)

  • A window should appear, select the "Java" tab

  • Click the "View Button"

  • Assuming the Runtime Parameters section is blank enter the appropriate Memory allocation size.  Eg: I increase mine to 400M by adding "-Xms400m" in the blank field

A few additional notes:
This was applied to ver 10.22 but the same logic should apply to most versions
Try increments gently or you may cause other problems with your OS.  You can see the default amount by looking at the current Max on the bottom right hand side of ther page.  The number to the right of the 'of' in [###M of ###M]
